3D/4D Pregnancy ScansA regular 2D pregnancy ultrasound is a cross-section of information about the fetus inside the uterus. The image it takes shows us a thin slice of the baby inside. A 3D/4D ultrasound, like the image on the right, combines a whole series of these regular 'flat' ultrasound images into a more life-like three-dimensional picture.
The advantages of 3D/4D pregnancy scans are mainly in communicating ultrasound information with people who are not trained at reading regular ultrasounds, such as patients. Therefore, there is not necessarily diagnostic advantages in employing this technology. |
Ultrasound North's ServicesThe photo on the left is a 36 week old fetus. The image has been obtained using the 3D/4D equipment that is available at Ultrasound North. Ultrasound North is proud to be able to offer 3D/4D ultrasound services as part of a clinical ultrasound, where required, although there are not always any medical advantages of having a 3D/4D image, so patients should not expect to receive the 3D/4D image as a matter of course. However we do endeavour to obtain at least one 3D image for you to take away from your ultrasound.
